I have built my practice with a mission to defend my clients' rights and to protect their futures. To that end, I spend time listening to and getting to know my clients. I help them develop a plan for the continued health and prosperity of their families through comprehensive estate planning and advance planning for the possibility of incapacity. When it is too late for advance planning and a loved one has already become mentally or physically incapacitated, I guide my clients through the process of obtaining a guardianship and/or conservatorship and with the required reporting once a guardianship/ conservatorship has been obtained. My practice also includes working with elderly victims of fraud and abuse and defending elderly clients charged with criminal offenses such as assault or reckless conduct (often the result of undiagnosed dementia or other mental impairment). I obtained my Bachelors in Business Administration, with a concentration in International Business from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984 and my Juris Doctor from the University of Houston in 1989. I started my legal career in 1989 as an Assistant District Attorney in Houston, Texas, where I obtained considerable litigation experience trying over 100 misdemeanor and felony cases, including murder, elder abuse and white collar fraud. I later moved to Denver, Colorado, to take a job with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigating fraudulent security schemes, many involving elderly victims. I put down roots with my husband and young daughter in Westminster, Colorado. I opened my elder law and estate planning practice in the nearby suburb of Northglenn and serve clients in the North Denver Metro area.
